The friendship between the cities of  Kaunas and Grenoble began in summer 1996, when the deputy mayor of Grenoble Michel Destot visited Kaunas, accompanied by his wife Marie Destot.

Shortly after, the first official delegation of the city of Grenoble came to Kaunas. Its members met with officials of the Municipality of Kaunas, as well as representatives of economic, academic and cultural.

In February 1997 the delegation from the city of Grenoble arrived in Kaunas, composed of 18 members representing different areas of Grenoble as well as 5 members of the French National Assembly. Kaunas and Grenoble have decided to establish ties of friendship and cooperation and promote relations between the inhabitants of both cities. During his visit, March 8 at the Town Hall of Kaunas was solemnly signed the twinning between Kaunas (Lithuania) and Grenoble (France) in the presence of both delegations mentioned above, SEM Michel Touraine, France ambassador in Lithuania and Ambassador Richard Backy, Ambassador of Lithuania in France, officials from both cities, guests, members of the Association France-Lithuania in Kaunas and the press.

The cities of Kaunas and Grenoble are committed to fostering development of exchanges in the fields:

• Economic co-promote potential for public control, develop mutual understanding of local economies and business contacts.
• university-establish links between stakeholders, encourage exchanges of students and teachers and cooperation in science and technology.
• Cultural-establish links between the two cities cultural facilities such as museums and theaters.
 

Cooperation between these two cities is performed by twinning committees, created in the two cities that coordinate and mediate links for their research and support.

 

COMPOSITION OF THE COMMITTEE OF PAIRING KAUNAS-GRENOBLE

 Economic Collaboration

• Exchange of project initiatives, firstly, towards the implementation of innovations. In Kaunas, the project partners could be Technopolis and other parks of Science and Technology, the Valley Santaka, other innovative businesses.
• Nrésentation the French business community and the city of Kaunas region and investment opportunities, to establish direct links business-business. As a means of disseminating information, we could use the network of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Grenoble.
• Connecting with the desktop (consortium) Grenoble Network Business and Innovations Europeen (LINE). Chamber of Commerce and Industry administers the consortium Kaunas corresponding AEIN of Lithuania.
• This would be a real help to businesses PMC (small and medium business) looking for a technology refresh.
• Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kaunas and INVEST IN LITHUANIA''''could ensure free dissemination of French business interests in our region. If businessmen are interested in Grenoble, we proceed immediately to the establishment of cooperation and seeking investors.

Proposed Academic Exchange-mediate to forge cooperation between students of the University of Kaunas Vytautas Magnus College and an analogue of Grenoble.

Medical cooperation - The medical cooperation is based on the agreement signed between the University Hospital of Grenoble and the University Hospital and Kaunas University of Medicine. The priorities of this cooperation: infectious diseases, radiology, immunology, organization of work in the service host and the differentiation of patients according to the dominant pathology.
The type of cooperation consists of lectures, seminars, internships and exchange of delegations and stakeholders.
